Hardy Haberman sent me a link to the Mombian.com Web site to watch this video, a bank commercial from Argentina, and I was so impressed I decided to post it here.
…. but in this country, we’re not ready for same-sex marriage… Thank god we have Argentina and Spain and Canada and Iceland and Israel to lead the way of the last remaining superpower…

Something like that would be refreshing to see on TV in the US. Countries south of the border often times have a reputation as being conservative and anti-gay and while there is some truth to this it of course doesn’t accurately depict LGBT civil rights issues in Latin America.
This commercial surely would have aired in Buenos Aires where LGBT folks have civil unions. Civil Unions also exist in Argentina’s little brother to the north, Uruguay, Ecuador and Mexico City to name a few. Parece que los conservadores son mas bien los estadounidenses que los latinoamericanos en este caso.

Blake thanx for the spanish bit. I thought I was losing all my skills but I understood you loud and clear. I agree, with all our freedoms (speech, bear arms, religion, etc) we are still a pretty conservative country.

SI se puede.
What a great commercial. Maybe in my lifetime we’ll see something like that here in the States. Although most of Latin America is mostly conservative, they seem to be more in tune with people’s civil rights that we are here in the United States. Who ever thought that the rest of America would be mroe tolerant that the U.S. Certainly not me, after living in Latin America.
Glad you liked it. Made me tear up.
