A witness to a brutal anti-gay hate crime in Dallas five years ago is holding a fundraiser during Dallas Pride for the victim. Michael Robinson witnessed the attack on Jimmy Lee Dean near the Cedar Springs strip in July 2008. Robinson later testified against Dean’s attackers, who both received long prison terms. Robinson said he was inspired to hold the fundraiser after recent reports about Dean’s continued struggle with injuries sustained in the attack, and his inability to afford needed medical treatment. The fundraiser will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Alexandre’s, 4026 Cedar Springs Road. Robinson will be selling T-shirts for $25 and accepting donations. Robinson said Dean, who moved out of state after the attack, plans to travel to Dallas for the event. Dean has also set up an IndieGoGo fundraising page.
