15-year-old church group provides services to 4,000 HIV-positive clients

The Board of Trustees of the Dallas Chapter of Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS has named White Rock Friends as a beneficiary of their fundraising efforts in 2006 and has awarded the Friends organization a grant of $24,000.

Patricia Deason and David Nelson, board members for the Dallas Chapter of the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, presented a check for $24,000 recently to Dan Godfrey, president of White Rock Friends, and Douglas Shaffer, administrator of White Rock Friends.

White Rock Friends has, since 1991, provided personal hygiene and household cleaning products, congregate meals, clothing distribution, pet food/supplies, pastoral counseling and referrals in a caring and supportive environment to more than 4,000 people living with HIV/AIDS.

It operates the General Store, the Saturday Meals Program and the Clothes Closet for clients’ use.

The group is a community service project of White Rock Community Church.
