Jack E. Jett’s CNN Radio show is no more. And he’s crying foul – and homophobia.
Here’s what Jack told me:
Some guy name J.D. who is in charge of Clear Channel read a quote of mine on the Dallas Observer blog [where he said something like] ‘I’m not one of those hosts who have one hand on the mike and the other on my cock.’ [J.D.] said he found that distasteful and cancelled the entire show. [Jack] spoke with J.D. and called him out for what I am certain that it is: homophobia, plain and simple. He wouldn’t even deny it; he just said ‘How dare you call me a homophobe and you better not be recording this.’ I don’t think the part about the ‘cock’ bothered him. I am sure it was [me] the being a spokesperson for the gay community that freaked him out.
So, here’s the issue to me: If there was a reason other than this “J.D.” being personally offended, we invite him to send us a letter or offer his excuse here. If not, I think we need to get an explanation from Clear Channel about what their official policy is about gay (or even “offensive”) personalities on their stations.
Why not just print JD’s full name so we can call and ask him ourselves?
jd freeman.
Clear Channel’s stars include Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage and Glenn Beck. So any of their sniffs at objectionable speech are ridiculous. They’re perfectly fine with blatantly homophobic utterances from their pantheon of morons.
I found this message from the Lowry Mays, Founder of Clear Channel. It speaks about diversity, but they dont see very diverse if they can drop a show before it even starts because ONE person is supposedly offended. Funny thing is, they havent even heard the show yet.
“…Further, Lowry Mays, Founder, Clear Channel Communications said it best: The Clear Channel workforce is creative, vibrant and very individual. To say we are ‘diverse’ is an understatement. We have come from an amazing variety of personal backgrounds, corporate culture, and business perspectives… To reach our dreams, we must make allowances for each other, and we must be open to change and accommodation. Our differences can be our greatest strength-if we let them.”
“Today, we are a diverse community of highly motivated and talented professionals. A major component of our diversity initiative is to draw upon our unique backgrounds and experiences to develop better solutions, faster results and a remarkable vision for the future. And this vision is much more than talk. Leadership from the very top consistently demonstrates the commitment to diversity…”
The whole Diversity Issue can be found here (https://www.clearchannel.com/Corporate/PressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=1175&p=hidden) as well as how to contact Clear Channel Radio. Ill be calling and email about this issue. What Hippocrites!
Brian, Thanks so much for that.
I would like to publically ask where in the hell is Queer Liberaction when I need them.
Have you forgot about Daddy Jack? I have got some really nice supportive emails but not one word from the group that I always stood up and yelled for.
There is no doubt in my mind that I experience discrimination. I have heard Clear Channel employees use far worse verbiage.
They also broke a contract by not giving me two weeks notice. I think Richard (Big Dick Hunter) are going to do our shows live from ilume next week.
i can’t speak for the group but i have given a couple of words of support to you over on unfair park, jack. i’ve always loved what you do and think you got the shaft on this one (does that make freeman a top?). if there is anything else i can do personally let me and everyone else know. maybe an “i’m with jack e” campaign?
Brian
Your comments are greatly appreciated. The reality is that (after my heart surgery last may) yesterday I received a clean bill of health and the heart is pumping and doing what it is suppose to do.
I do feel I got the shaft from Clear Channel, but I am more happy that I will be around a while longer to engage in some more inappropriate comments.
Good to hear about your heart. Now if they can just push you up on the list for that brain transplant, Jack.
I’m glad to hear your heart is doing well. It’s always been in the right place. I anxiously await your return to the airwaves. Perhaps in the meantime we start calling the sponsors if that station to let them know we don’t spend money with businesses that condone freeman’s brand of homophobia.
