1. The Associated Press has obtained a 1985 letter in which the future Pope Benedict XVI resisted pleas to defrock a priest with a record of sexually molesting children. 2. DC Agenda’s Lou Chibarro reports that two lesbian Stanford University professors are among President Barack Obama’s potential picks to become Justice John Paul Stevens’ successor on the U.S. Supreme Court. Stevens announced his retirement Friday.
3. Virulently anti-gay Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed in a plane crash that also took the lives of more than 95 others, including a pro-gay former deputy prime minister. Three years ago Kaczynski made remarks suggesting that gays could cause the human race to disappear. He also repeatedly banned gay Pride events when he served as mayor of Warsaw.
