A major water main break on Cedar Springs Road had closed two lanes of traffic as well as several businesses on the strip Thursday afternoon, Aug. 6.
The Nelson-Tebedo Health Resource Center canceled some services because of the break, and Woody’s closed.
Two-way traffic was maintained with one lane open in each direction. Sidewalks were wet but passable.
Workers drilled through the concrete in front of the Nelson-Tebedo clinic to find the break. Water geysers caused by the drilling spouted higher and higher as Dallas water department workers got closer to the leak.
Nelson-Tebedo was forced to cancel testing and dental procedures on Thursday because both use water. Test results were still available. The center was encouraging clients to call and reschedule any appointments.
Spokesman Rafael McDonnell said he expected about 40 people to be affected. That number including regular walk-in traffic, he said.
From Hunky’s to Alexandre’s on one side and at Zini’s across the street, employees were told to expect their water to be turned off at 12:30 p.m. and remain off for the rest of the afternoon.
A worker in hip boots at the scene said he expected the leak to be found and service restored by 4 p.m. Thursday.
