Ahead of season two’s first episode this Sunday, March 22, a new trailer for The Disappointments gives a preview of what’s ahead. Creator/director Rich Burns also leads the cast in the Humanitas Prize-winning digital series about three middle-aged gay best friends figuring out their best lives. New episodes will release every Sunday through May 10 at noon CST.
“We ended season one with a big cliffhanger – a time jump, where we see Ray and Dwight were broken up with no explanation,” Burns said in today’s press release. “In season two, we see what went down between them and what comes next. This season will also dive more deeply into the lives and careers of Ray, James, and Gary. We see them in new and challenging work settings, and getting promising opportunities that could help them turn their lives around.”
The offical synopsis reads: Ray, Gary and James each find themselves with new and exciting employment possibilities that could actually turn their disappointing lives around while also managing new challenges in their personal lives: Ray, struggling to move on after his breakup with Dwight, lands a job writing on a girls’ animated series and discovers he’s an awkward fit in a room full of Gen-Z writers. Gary finds himself hired to be the co-host of a talk show and prepares to shoot the pilot while a very unexpected relationship sprouts up in his life. And newly-licensed real estate agent James manages to find a mentor in a prestigious Beverly Hills realty firm, only for complications to arise when the two men enter into a kinky sexual affair.
The show stars Rich Burns as Ray, Gedde Watanabe as Gary, James Campbell as James and Trevor LaPaglia as Dwight.
“I’m really excited for people to see the incredible work our cast and crew have done, and I can’t wait for viewers to meet all the new characters who bring the laughs and conflict and more heart and more drama. Season two is definitely a big step up,” Burns added.
The director’s cut of season one is available to stream on YouTube now. Watch the trailer for season two below.
