Pretty nice to hear from Bloc Party again. Yesterday, they released the video for “Octopus” from their upcoming album Four (not to be confused with this album). The band has been off the radar since the 2008 album Intimacy, but the break seems like its done them some good. “Octopus” screeches and rocks the way the band did when it first came out in 2005 with Silent Alarm.
The band has tried to buzz the album with radio announcements, Twitter updates and even a trailer, but this video finally gives us something to look forward to; Four is scheduled for an August release. While the band was working to finish this album, gay frontman Kele Okereke recorded and released his 2011 EP The Hunter which fueled some rumors that he was breaking away from the band. Bloc Party dispelled such notions which are disproven by the guys coming back together for their latest release.
As for the video, well, it has some major kickassery to it thanks to some simple but clever editing. Watch “Octopus” after the jump.
That was awesome and I can’t wait for the album. Do the website people really need to include the fact that Kele is homosexual though? I mean honestly who really cares. Since I am a lead vocalist I am inspired to flaunt useless information about myself like this. Frontman Torren Tsairaiku and his canine fangs that are switched with the digits behind them has announced new tour dates…well aside from that I hope the rest of the album looks this good and hope there can be more videos prior to release.
I understand your concern that as musicians it shouldn’t matter what a person’s sexual orientation is and for the most part I agree with wholeheartedly. However, I myself am a recording artist and as a means of expressing myself fully my sexuality definitely comes into play as does yours. So when a gay publication mentions yours or my music, they’re not interested in our incredible medical breakthroughs, they’re interested in the fact that we’re GAY musicians. They’re responsible for reporting all things gay culture. So when a young aspiring gay musician wants to know about other gay local artists, be grateful that he or she can open up a Dallas Voice and see a review of your band.
Not to keep dwelling on this but is that what this whole thing is about? IS this a gay publication and is that what LGBT stands for? Because If that’s the case then that makes sense and I had no idea and I was just totally in the dark…okay then.
You’re forgiven
