What a week Star Jones must be having. The rumors that “The View” was scouting for Jones’ replacement were circulating long before Rosie O’Donnell entered the picture. And just when you thought the show couldn’t get any more boring, Meredith Viera left the panel. And Barbara Walters, with her weak segues and dull acumen, is no Meredith.

We were all hoping for a Jones vs. O’Donnell showdown. Sadly, that’s not happening.

Of course, Jones is a nouveau-bourgeois freak. But despising her was one of the show’s best assets. She was never dead weight. The former New York assistant district attorney made some excellent points when she wasn’t fawning over celebrities.

But on Tuesday, Jones apparently “surprised” her co-panelists and announced her departure saying she would leave in mid-July. But on Wednesday, Walters said Jones would not be welcome back.

So far Jones hasn’t announced a new career move. But she’s always said she’d like to live in Dallas. And when “The View” conducted a two-day “The View from Dallas” broadcast, Jones did a spoofy audition for WFAA-TV.
O’Donnell joins “The View” on Sept. 5.
