Valiente and Legacy of Success Foundation have announced a new partnership effort aimed at working together to promote their common goals.

The two organizations and their honorary host committee will hold a special meeting Thursday, March 26, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Monica’s Aca y Alla Restaurant, 2914 Main St., to offer information about legislative issues affecting LGBT people of color.

Valiente advocates on social issues affecting the Latino LGBTQ community and works to promote cultural, education and social activities. Legacy of Success Foundation is an organization dedicated to empowering LGBT people of color through activism and economic growth.

At that meeting, Paul Scott, executive director of Equality Texas, will address issues affecting the community at the state level, and Steve Atkinson with the Human Rights Campaign will address issues affecting the community at the federal level.

Areas of discussion will include the Americans With Disabilities Act in connection with HIV/AIDS, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Uniting American Families immigration act, the hate crimes laws, youth and schools and HIV funding and research.

There will be a question-and-answer period at the end of the session, and light appetizers will be served. For information, call Ben Leal at 512-762-3617 or Omar Narvaez at 214-926-0172.
