Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s office sent over the following statement this afternoon in response to our inquiry about her position on a standalone measure to repeal “don’t ask don’t tell.”
“I will not support a repeal of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy,” Hutchison said. “After speaking with military personnel and former leaders of our armed services, I remain very concerned about how repealing this policy could negatively impact unit cohesion and overall troop readiness — especially during a time of war.”
It’s interesting that Hutchison doesn’t identify the “military personnel” or “former leaders” with whom she claims to have spoken. We know, for example, that she’s repeatedly refused to meet with Dave Guy-Gainer, a retired Air Force chief master sergeant who lives in Tarrant County. According to a recently released Pentagon study, the “military personnel” who spoke to Hutchison are in the minority. Furthermore, why would she speak with “former leaders of our armed services” instead of current ones? The top two current military leaders, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Mike Mullen, both support DADT repeal. And all of the current service chiefs say repeal would be no problem.
So can someone please explain WTF she’s talking about?
UPDATE: Maybe she’s been spending too much time with homophobic Marine Commandant Gen. James Amos.
As predicted Kay Bailey Hutchinson votes against LGBT Texans again. Now remind me why LCR supports her?
Good point Hardy! KBH has the LCR, but she needs Jesus…and some gay friends. Her hair would be FABULOUS and her attitude would improve.
A Texas politician casting an anti-gay vote…..NO!!!!!
Kay, you are simply fabulous! Not all of us gays think you are wrong. I served in the Marines for 20 years, from the time I was 18, and received my honorable discharge in 2005 after multiple tours of duty, including Operation Desert Storm and later, Operation Iraqi Freedom. I had no problem being gay, and I followed the Rules. You have always done the right thing for the Armed Forces and whatever you decide on this issue is good for me, and I am gay and live in Dallas. Besides, has anyone complaining here ever met Kay, or her hot looking staff guys? Kay is just damn flawlessly fabulous and she always has these hot guys on her staff. I was in Washington a few months ago for some work and my partner and I were at her office for a coffee on a Thursday morning. Everyone was so very nice to us. Totally the opposite of the people in Senator Cornyn’s office that gave us “mean girl” looks. My message here to Kay is simple: You Go Girl!
Can her office provide an explanation for why she won’t listen to a former leader like Colin Powell? And can you get her office to comment on how she would react to a court-ordered repeal that would take effect immediately, versus a legislative repeal that would give the military ample time to prepare?
Not surprised at all. Did anyone think because she made an appearance at an LCR gathering she would actually start supporting LGBT issues?
John David Thornfield: Thank you for defending our country and serving in the Marines. That is awesome bravery and courage and we owe you some thanks. I think we should be focusing on Senator John Cornyn, not Kay Bailey. Besides, I would kill to get a view of her closet. Suber Fab.

I agree, thanks for your service John David Thornfield. However, she’s going against the majority, and isn’t accurately representing the American public is supposed to be the main job of a DC-level state office? Or most governmental offices? (Check the “my website” links, for some reason I can’t post them on here.)
Representatives of American citizens like Sen. Hutchison and Sen. Cornyn are not misrepresenting gay citizens that they hate so much (also some links in there), but the overwhelming majority of Americans. Their homophobic tendencies aside, they are disregarding around 70% of American’s views.

When asked about serving in a unit with a gay co-worker, the Pentagon’s Comprehensive Review Working Group (CRWG) reported that 92 percent of service members believe the unit’s “ability to work together” was “very good,” “good,” or “neither good nor poor.”

Also apparently I don’t proofread. Whoops.
End spam.
I contacted her and got such a lame answer as to why she could not support such a ‘radical’ change in military policy during a time of war….heavens gays have been there for years and years….i was in over 20 years ago and they were there……is our military so pansy weak that they can’t handle knowing someone is gay. Hutchins seems to think so. She needs to be voted out asap…..
Yeah I get so angry with her response letters, they usually just go straight to the shredder without being opened. She certainly doesn’t represent me or my opinions.
I want to add my five inch heels to the chorus of glamour in support of Fab Kay. Honey, I want to know where the hell she gets her lipstick. She has got the right color and I want it for my next drag performance!
Oh, I MUST support Kay because she always has hot guys on her staff and she will be nice to me while we’re both in the same room! She can vote against my freedom because she knows what’s best for me.
My eye’s are black and blue? No, she didn’t hit me, I just fell. I’m so clumsy.
Yay for Sean. I find myself in Houston surrounded by a mind-boggling number of gay Repugnicans who can’t seem to shake their life-long desire to be accepted by the good ole boys they grew up with. They don’t realize that the seemingly civil handshaking, backpatting GOP would really rather not have to breathe the same air as John David Thornfield, regardless of his sacrifice. But, they will do anything to get a vote. And, they’re smart enough to know that even grouchy old queens will bite down on the “less taxes, smaller government, go home wetbacks (except for the ones who clean my pool)” biscuit.
It’s true, I have less respect for a gay Republican than Kay does. But, that’s just me…
