I finally tracked down a police report about the accident early Friday that damaged the Legacy of Love Monument at Oak Lawn Avenue and Cedar Springs Road. Based on the report, it appears as though the motorist who plowed through the Oak Lawn Triangle, causing extensive damage to the monument, fled the scene without leaving any information. According to a witness who called in the report at 2:28 a.m. on Friday, the motorist asked the witness to help move his vehicle off the bricks that were underneath it. The witness told the motorist that the vehicle wouldn’t move because it was “high-centered” on one of the pillars. The motorist then got back in the vehicle, identified as a dark-colored, late-model Chevy Impala or Malibu, and managed to drive off the bricks and away from the scene. The motorist told the witness that he needed to get to Las Colinas or Irving, according to the report. That’s all the information I currently have, but I’ll let you know if I hear anything more.
Somebody else had to have seen this happen. Hopefully others will come forward.
uh… Didn’t the wallgreens say they had on camara a tow truck towing some one off from there??
Brett,
The Walgreens manager did indicate that he saw a tow truck and a police car on the video. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a vehicle was towed. The person who called 911 may have requested a tow truck because he/she didn’t expect the suspect to get back in the car and drive off. I’ll update this as soon as more info becomes available, but there’s a good chance that won’t be until Monday.
I guess the main key to it all is having the person’s license plate so the police know where to go and find further details. Assuming that the vehicle isn’t stolen.. But then again, I guess we watch too many CSI shows these days.
Kinda ironic if you think of it… these CSI shows teach real criminals ‘what not to do’ and ‘things to avoid’ allowing them to make less mistakes and getting caught. Gee, now if I were a terrorist who was about to hijack a plane or a train this would be the perfect place to get ideas.
Sure is funny how life imitates art don’t you think?
When is the Queer Liberaction protest. Won’t they be “demanding” that people do not drive dunk – especially in OUR neighborhood? THAT would be helpful.
Nahhh, they’re too busy holding a rally to demand that the Dallas Voice block all messages from commentators named Josh.
