U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, the Democratic incumbent in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District who happens to be openly bisexual, looks to have won re-election. With 91 of 141 precincts there reporting, Sinema has won 55 percent of the vote, to GOP challenger Wendy Roger’s 42 percent. Libertarian Powell Gammill got a little more than 3 percent, and write-in candidates got less than 1 percent.

In California, with only early ballots counted, Republican Carl DeMaio leads Democrat Scott Peters, 51 percent-49 percent. If DeMaio can hang on to that lead as the rest of the votes are counted, he will become the first openly-gay Republican elected to Congress. Gay Republican Richard Tisei also had a chance to take the title of first openly gay Republican elected to Congress, but he lost his race for the 6th Congressional District seat in Massachusetts to Democrat Seth Moulton.

In Nevada, transgender candidate Lauren A Scott, a Republican, has lost to Democratic incumbent Michael Sprinkle in the race for the Nevada State Assembly District 30 seat. The margin was 56 percent to 44 percent.
