Texas author Tyler Curry will launch his new children’s book, A Peacock Among Pigeons, with a special party tonight, Friday, Oct. 23, 6-9 p.m., at ilume Gallerie, 4123 Cedar Springs Road, Ste. 107.
They are asking for a $10 donation at the door, with proceeds benefiting Resource Center’s Youth First program. This is a family-friendly event, with face painting and a reading for the kiddos, as well as cocktails for the adults, Curry said. Curry will also be signing copies of the book.
The LGBT-themed children’s book is illustrated by award-winning artist Clarione Gutierez, and is published by Mascot Books, based in Herndon, Va.
Curry said that A Peacock Among Pigeons was born out of his desire to create a story “for any child who has ever felt like they were different and didn’t belong. He said that growing up as a young gay boy in Texas, he often felt as if he stuck out for all the wrong reasons when all he wanted to do was fit in. Now, he wants young LGBT people — and anyone else who has been made to feel less than just for being different — to know that their beautiful and unique feathers are what makes them so special.
“When you can’t fit in, you have to learn to stand out!”
