The Trump administration’s war on “DEI” has put a target on all things LGBTQ+ in the public realm. but few topics have inflamed tempers as much as forcing the removal of rainbow crosswalks in LGBTQ+ gayborhoods.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s dictate last fall that all rainbow crosswalks in Texas cities have to be removed or those cities could lose federal funding set off a firestorm of angry debate and defiance in the Lone Star State’s LGBTQ+ community. And then the Oak Lawn United Methodist Church weighed in on the debate by painting the front steps leading up to the historic church sanctuary, earning an international spotlight on the church, Oak Lawn, Texas and rainbows.
With Dallas playing a leading role in the debate over rainbow crosswalks, Dallas Voice Publisher Leo Cusimano appeared on the Jan. 6 episode of The Buckeye Flame’s podcast, This News Is So Gay, alongside Ryan Williams-Jent, editor-in-chief of Watermark Out News, Kate Sosin, LGBTQ+ Beat reporter at The 19th, and podcast host and Buckeye Flame Editor Ken Schneck.
