Twan McGary

The Normal Anomaly Initiative this week announced the appointment of Twan McGary as program manager, the organization’s first permanent staff member for its newly-opened Dallas branch. “Twan’s lived experience as a Black trans man will bring invaluable insights to the organization and community,” noted a press release announcing his appointment, adding that it a “reinforces the Normal Anomaly’s commitment to overcoming barriers, ending stigma, and challenging problematic narratives throughout the South.”

MaGary has a “deep commitment to social justice,” the press release noted, adding that “His journey, shaped by the unique challenges of being a Black trans man in the South and lack of representation growing up, has fueled his drive to create lasting change.”

McGary has been an advocate for Black, queer visibility and representation. He is the founder of Trust the Process and is a content creator “who uses his voice and platform to break barriers and help everyone find pathways to live fulfilling lives.” As program manager for Normal Anomaly, he will “lead initiatives aimed at empowering individuals to actualize a new normal, free from societal constraints, as well as facilitating peer support groups.

McGary said, “I am honored to join the Normal Anomaly Initiative and contribute to the transformative work being done across the country. Together, we can create a world where Black, queer+ individuals find community and can express their unique selves proudly.”

The Normal Anomaly founder Ian L. Haddock said, “We are beyond excited to have Twan join our team as program manager. His lived experience, coupled with his unwavering dedication to our mission, makes him the perfect fit to lead our efforts in Dallas.

“With Twan on board, we are confident that we will continue to push boundaries and create spaces where the Dallas community and beyond can live authentically and powerfully,” Haddock said.

Haddock said the opening of the Dallas office and McGary’s appointment “come at a pivotal time for the Normal Anomaly Initiative as it expands its impact nationally through the BQAF Media Tour.
