• May 4: Couple Communication Workshop
Candy Marcum, LPC, and Jimmy Owen, LPC, present a four-part Couple Communication Workshop, taking place over two weekends, from 5-7 p.m. May 4 and 11, 10 a.m.-noon on May 5 and 12. Designed to help couples understand each other better by learning effective communication skills. Cost is $450 per couple, which includes two workbooks and eight hours of instruction. • May 5: NRA protest
While the NRA holds its national convention at the Dallas Convention Center, protesters gather at noon at City Hall Plaza.

• May 5: NAMIWalks Dallas
The 13th annual walk to raise funds and reduce the stigma of mental illness is chaired by lesbian singer songwriter Daphne Willis. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk at 10:30 a.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark, 7300 Rough Riders Trail, Frisco.

• May 11-14: Purple Party May 5: ‘1985’ Movie Screening
RGray Pride has free tickets to a screening of the film 1985 at noon at The Magnolia, 3699 McKinney Ave. For information or tickets email graypride@myresourcecenter.org. The movie follows a closeted man named Adrian returning from New York to his hometown in Texas for Christmas during the first wave of the AIDS crisis.

• May 5: Pre-TBRU Dance-Pajama Party
Dallas Bears host a Pre-Texas Bear Round-up Dance-Pajama Party from 9 p.m. to
2 a.m. at Dallas Eagle, 5740 Maple Ave. Wear your pajamas but all attire must be Texas legal. $5 suggested donation gets you entry to the Bear Cave, and proceeds benefit TBRU beneficiaries GDMAF, Sharon St. Cyr Fund and AIDS Interfaith Network.
