According to the GuestHouse Films newsletter, native Texan Rob Williams is a finalist in the NewDraft Screenwriting Competition at NewFest, the New York LGBT film festival, which started this past Friday. Williams’ script for The Mystic Chord, based on Jim Tushinski’s novel, Van Allen’s Ecstasy, is up for one of two winning slots. The announcement will be made on closing night June 12 and the winners will receive readings of the scripts sponsored by NewFest.
I talked to Williams last year when he was working on his Christmas film Make the Yuletide Gay that screened at both Out Takes Dallas and Q Cinema. Yuletide was intended as the prototypical holiday family fare. Van Allen’s Ecstasy is more on the dramatic side about the tale of a gay man who tries to rebuild his life after waking up with no memory in a mental hospital.
Hey Rich, we were also pleased to have Rob in town this weekend for the world premiere of his latest work in progress, Role/Play, at Q Cinema’s 12th annual film festival. We also welcomed three of the cast members in town for the Cathedral of Hope production of “Corpus Christi”. Congrats, Rob!
