Discussing “don’t ask don’t tell” on the Family Research Council’s Washington Watch Weekly radio program on Friday, Congressman Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, offered his response to those who point out that the Bible — if you read it closely and all — doesn’t really appear to condemn homosexuality per se:
“Some people say, ‘Where is homosexuality in violation of the Ten Commandments?’ Well, it’s adultery. It’s sexual relations outside of marriage, a man and a woman. Of course there are other verses that reference these specific acts, men lusting after men, etc., but specifically for the military, when anyone, whether they’re homosexual or heterosexual, cannot control their hormones to the point that they are a distraction to the good order and discipline of the military, then they need to be removed from the military.”
Gohmert goes on to agree that if DADT is repealed, the military would have to change its policies to allow “heterosexual immorality.”
“Well of course it would,” he says. “Well, I say of course it would. You would think that. But of course we’ve already shown through Congress that homosexuality deserves a more precious and privileged position just by some of the laws that we’ve passed.”
Gohmert is likely referring to the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act, which he suggested last year could lead to the legalization of things like pedophilia, necrophilia and bestiality.
What cha dreaming about Mr. Gohmert? Golly gee you sure look tired. Is D.C. wearing you out? Congress isn’t being fair to you anymore? Things not going your way? Gee Mr. Gohmert Im sorry maybe you should come back to Texas and play in your own yard. Cause the other kids Mr. Gohmert aren’t putting up with you and people like you elected or not who want to continue to discriminate. So don’t sit there you doofus and spin the words and the interpretations of the Bible. You forget a lot of us have our own copy now and have actually read it. We ain’t buying your hate anymore. Have a nice day Mr. Gohmert hope you get some rest. You are going to need it.
According to Jesus, just looking at a woman with lust in your eye is adultery. And yet we have all these church deacons going out week after week and lusting after every pink skirt they see. It’s pure hypocrisy for the churches to exclude gays as “unrepentant.” Jesus said that “belief” is all that is required. Only much later did that Paul guy start preaching repentance and claiming to speak for God, turning the earlly christian church into something that incorporated the societal taboos of the time.
So why aren’t Gohmert and his ilk railing against singles bars and pre-marital sex and other aspects of the heterosexual lifestyle? It’s simply because of the hatred against homosexuals that churches have fostered for centuries (because THAT does not result in babies who grow up to be believers and keep the church’s numbers up). Also, I’m pretty sure that bestiality is mostly a product of the rural heterosexual lifestyle.
Congressman Gohmert is wrong to claim that adultery is sexual relations outside of marriage, a man and a woman. Dictionaries define adultery as voluntary sexual intercourse between a married man and a woman not his wife, or between a married woman and a man not her husband. That is, one of the persons in an adulterous encounter has to be married.
So the reference in the Ten Commandments to adultery does not cover homosexuality (same-sex activity) unless one of the men involved is married to a woman, or unless one of the women involved is married to a man.
You would think these public servants, government and the courts would be swift in moving away from all this and their ignorance and demonstration of lack of education. It is apparent, from their statements and decisions they were, and perhaps still are, ignorant to the simple fact that God gave marriage to man in a time predating government and courts. They, government and the courts, are best to obey their own ends and workings and leave marriage alone for their claim of there being a separation of church and state. The book of Genesis, a compilation of oral traditions handed down since antiquity and the apparent beginning of man, and finally recorded by Moses, around 1440-1400 B.C., is the strongest evidence of their, government and courts, lack of authority to be involved in marriage. Have things worsened to the point they can no longer even recognize their own ignorance and errors? Then surely, the times written of, about satan taking rule, are here upon us! Or, are they claiming they have already held trial and decided against God and in their favor?
Besides, there is no inequality, as this article points out: https://www.renewamerica.com/columns/fischer/100808
I am a Technical Sergeant in the Air Force and I’m here to tell you that Congressman Gohmert is at best misguided. Everything he says is based on the assumption that his religion should have a direct influence on military policy. Cheating on your husband or wife is against the UCMJ because it detracts from your ability to be an effective war fighter. Being gay does no such thing. I believe that homosexuality is against the UCMJ because people like Gohmert don’t like gay people. It’s really as simple as that. I’m not at higher risk of catching AIDS during combat from gay people. That is just a scare tactic to win weak minds. I have no worry about sharing quarters with gay folks or showering where they might be around. It is by our conduct and nothing else that we should be judged. Besides, who says a gay guy would be any less offended by some stranger checking him out in the shower. Think about it.
The United States is a nation that is starting to take giant steps backwards. Because of its belief in the bible or its absurd notions of a deity, the ignorance of the people of the U.S. will continue to grow. Like the young boys and men rocking back and forth reciting verses from the Koran, large swaths of American may soon abandon all education save memorization of biblical texts. Then we’ll have a society as primitive and subject to superstitious beliefs as the people in Afghanistan. It amazes me that southern born-again types can’t see the parallels between themselves and the taliban. They’re the whacked-out, ignorant, simple-minded inculcated believers-in-error in both countries.
