TBTGeorge Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, with its glorious choreography and glittering costumes, is a vision of the Imperial Ballet in its heyday at the Mariinksy Theatre. Demanding rigorous technical precision, the range of patterns in motion is endlessly fascinating and has become a staple of the repertoire. The piece has been called the “niece” of The Sleeping Beauty – transforming 19th century ballet into a modern art form. Music from Tchaikovsky’s Suite No. 3 in G proves that ballet’s most celebrated composer is not just for The Nutcracker.

May 24–26 at the Wyly Theatre.
