Disco weekend at the St. Germain, a vegan beer dinner and your chance to show Absolut Pride

Clint-Mordecai

ABSOLUT PRIDE | Several local artists, including Clint Mordecai, above, are in the running for a nationwide contest to design the gayest bottle of vodka; newly opened Mutts serves comfort food, left, to dogs and humans.

Absolut Vodka has been holding a nationwide bottle design contest to coincide with Pride Month, though since Dallas Pride isn’t until September, a lot of locals don’t know about it.

That’s too bad, since several local artists have works in the running, including ilume Gallerie director Ronald Radwanski, Nick C. Kirk and Clint Mordecai. Mordecai’s design is currently No. 7 nationwide, but he (and the others) need your assistance with votes. Log onto Facebook.com/AbsolutUS and you can make your voice heard.

The Hotel St. Germain — for my money, hands-down the finest restaurant in Dallas — celebrates the disco era with its ’70s Retro Weekend, starting Friday. You can enjoy special accommodations with its Hotel California suite specials all weekend, attend the French Connection cocktail and champagne bar on Friday and attend the retro wine dinner from chef Chad Martin on Saturday for only $95/person. Follow that up with a Watergate brunch Sunday (just $25). Visit HotelStGermain.com for more details.

Jack’s Southern Comfort Food, restaurateur Scott Jones’ Lower Greenville eatery, is looking for a new home along Greenville where parking is more plentiful. It hopes to stay but may jog it over to Deep Ellum, the up-and-coming Henderson Avenue or even Downtown. For now, you can enjoy its down-home cookin’ in the same place until July 28.

Nearby, the Libertine Bar on Greenville will be offering a vegan beer dinner on June 26. Vegetarian dishes will be paired with a variety of brews. The cost is $55/person.

Mutts burger dog and fries

Wanna eat out, but hate to leave your dog at home? Mutts, which opened this week at Cityplace, is the solution: A full-service restaurant and bar combined with a dog park. It’ll be open daily from breakfast through dinner. Visit MuttsCantina.com for more information.

The June “burger of the month” at Twisted Root Burger Co. is “the Italian Job,”  topped with ricotta and prosciutto. Speaking of beef, the same people who brought us the North Texas Taco Festival (including Dallas Voice past contributor Jose Ralat Maldonado) are working their magic again with the inaugural BurgerFest. It comes to Deep Ellum on Sept. 21. Learn more about the event at Burgerfest-Dallas.com.
