When Phyllis Guest noticed all the promotions along Oak Lawn for Smirnoff Vodka, she got an idea. The Stonewall Rebellion veteran, who turns 72 next month, decided she might be able to increase knowledge about the epicenter of the gay rights movement through a little libation.

Thus was born The Stonewall.

The drink — Guest’s version of a bloody Mary — combines Smirnoff, spicy V8 and fresh lemon juice (and a wedge garnish for grin) in a tumbler over ice. The result: a caliente cooler that, you can argue is good for you (all those veggies!).

The recipe is simple, but for the rest of Dallas Pride Month, it’s being sold exclusively at the Round-Up Saloon under the name Stonewall. Is there a future for it, maybe as a signature drink Guest can brand for fundraising and education. She smiles. Ya never know.

Available exclusively at the Round-Up Saloon, 3912 Cedar Springs Road, during September.
