Stonewall Democrats of Dallas kicks off the 2008 campaign season with its annual holiday party Monday, Dec. 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Havana’s.

The party will feature Democratic leaders, elected officials, awards, a special performance by entertainer Wayne Smith as Cher, a holiday basket auction and a Mexican buffet.

Awards to be presented during the party are: the Harryette B. Ehrhardt Distinguished Democrat of the Year Award, the Christy Kinsler Board Member of the Year Award, the Buck Massey Member of the Year Award, the P.L. Moore Philanthropist of the Year Award and The Pink Pump Award. Special guests will include Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie and Houston-area State Rep. Rick Noriega, who is running against incumbent John Cornyn for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Several North Texas candidates for local, county and state offices will also attend.

Jesse Garcia, president of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas, said he is honored to have Richie and Noriega attending the event. He also said the event will provide “a great opportunity for members of the LGBT community who want to start getting politically involved in 2008 to come hear from our party leadership.”
