Gay political group announces it has met 35 percent of its goal to raise money for Lifewalk; 1st president of organization in hospital

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas has met 35 percent of its goal to raise money for Lifewalk, according to Jesse Garcia, president of the group.

The total raised for Lifewalk now stands at $911. It has three months to raise an additional $1,589 in order to meet the goal set by coordinators.

Lifewalk proceeds benefit North Texas AIDS services organizations.

Stonewall Young Democrats of Dallas will meet at the Resource Center of Dallas on Tuesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. LGBT Democrats and allies under the age of 40 are eligible to participate in the group.

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas’ general chapter will meet at Ojeda’s Restaurant, 4l617 Maple Ave., on Tuesday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m.

The featured speaker is David Hardt, candidate for Young Democrats of America president. Hardt is a longtime Stonewall member, and if elected, he would be the first openly-gay president of the group.

The gay political group is hosting a mixer Thursday, July 19, at 10 p.m. at Havana’s, 4006 Cedar Springs Road, for Young Democrats of America who will be in town for their national convention.

Texas Freedom Network has invited the gay political group’s members to attend a lecture by the Rev. Jim Wallis, author of “God’s Politics.” It will be held at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Road, Tuesday, July 24, at 7 p.m.

Christy Kinsler, the group’s first president, has been ill and in the hospital.
