Dallas-based AT&T Inc. faces its first congressional hearing Wednesday on the company’s $39 billion takeover bid for T-Mobile USA. The deal is opposed by other mobile carriers including Sprint, which helped pay for the below ad declaring, “No matter how you dress it up, this takeover is bad for consumers and the economy.”
Sometimes the gay community needs to get a sense of humor. (Besides, there’s nothing ‘trans’ about this ad. Being ‘trans’ isn’t about wearing a dress.)
How is this transphobic? just looks like a fatcat corporate type in the Tmobile hottie’s dress. Maybe in a vague way it is saying gender transgression doesn’t make sense, but there’s no indication they are depicting a trans person. These iconic spokespersons get made fun of all the time. Meh …
Oh god relax, this is not trans attacking at all. They are making fun of the stupid ass commercials T Mobile does
I swear that guy hit on me at JRs.
Oh lord. I realize that you’re a queer pub, but don’t you have to obtain SOME level of journalistic objectivity? I mean, if someone in the community were calling the ad transphobic, then at least you could cite them, but at this point it’s just YOU calling it transphobic. Keep your personal opinions out of the headlines and let your readers decide.
Thanx for the post John…I didn’t know there was a fight to stop ATT from taking over TMobile…as a TMobile customer, I am not happy with this merger…now I know who to contact 🙂
I am a woman with a transsexual history and I find the ad to be transphobic.
This perpetuates a myth and negative stereotype. Since most people haven’t met a real TS woman, this is their perception of gender variant people. In cities and counties across this country, we are fighting for equality in employment and opportunity. The “trans teacher teaching your children” and “bathroom” issues are two of the biggest hammers used against us by bigots and opposing forces. Look at TN legislation this week alone.
Let those of us who are trans and fighting for our equal rights, speak to what is and what is not transphobic images. This one is folks.
