Paterson expected to introduce bill on Thursday

ALBANY, New York — New York legislative officials say the state’s governor is expected to introduce legislation to legalize gay marriage.

Two officials say Gov. David Paterson will introduce the legislation Thursday, April 16. They spoke on condition of anonymity because there’s been no formal announcement.

The proposal would revive a bill that died in 2007 and still faces strong opposition despite a new Democratic majority in the state Senate.

Paterson, a Democrat, says in radio interviews that he believes it will ultimately become law and that it should be debated publicly.

The states of Vermont and Iowa have legalized same-sex marriage in recent weeks. It is also legal in Connecticut and Massachusetts. vkrackerсео кафе
