5 questions with Wayne Goodwin

Wayne Goodwin is co-chair, with Donna Fishel, of Elle Decor’s Dining by Design, a new fundraising event being presented by DIFFA-Dallas on June 24 at Dallas Market Center. The event will feature individual dining spaces created by local interior and architectural designers. Only 42 tables, seating 10 people each, will be available, at a cost of $5,000 or $10,000. Individual seats will be $350.

What is Dining by Design?
It is an event DIFFA has been holding in multiple markets around the country. But this is the first year DIFFA Dallas is holding it in this market. The concept is that designers get an 11-by-11 space in which to create a unique table dining environment. And they can create some really crazy, out-of-this-world stuff. I saw photos of one that was actually a horse-drawn carriage.

Why did DIFFA-Dallas decide to add the event this year?
Dallas Collection has been the flagship event for the Dallas chapter for many years. It has been growing so fast and so successfully that the board decided this year to bite the bullet and try to pull off another huge event to raise even more money for our local AIDS service agencies. This has been very successful in other markets, and the interior designers and architectural designers here are just really hungry for an event of this caliber.

When did planning begin for this event?
We started planning it in late February, and it has come together very quickly. The board felt very strongly that the Dallas design community would really support an event like this, even in such a short time frame. And they have. They’ve actually gone above and beyond in their support, and it has been a lot of fun to plan.

What do you do when you are not working for DIFFA?
I own two companies Verge Media, which is an advertising agency, and a promotional products company called Brandtenders. My partner, Shawn McCalister, and I are going on our fifth year together. He is the local sales manager for 106.1 KISS FM radio station.

What other community activities are you involved in?
I was previously involved in the local leadership council for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. But now I just concentrate on my companies and DIFFA.
