Maya Angelou will be the first person awarded Hope for Peace and Justice’s “Voice of Peace” at a presentation at the Meyerson Symphony Center on March 1.

In addition to a speech by Angelou, Art for Peace and Justice Director Tim Seelig will conduct the chorus, orchestra and the Meyerson organ and 2,000 voices singing “Dona Nobis Pacem,” which means Give Us Peace.

The event will kick off a worldwide effort on behalf of the international organization Song of Peace. The group hopes to organize 1 million voices around the world singing “Dona Nobis Pacem” during the month of March, marking the beginning of the Iraq War.
