Nelson-Tebedo conducts free HIV and syphilis testing on Wednesday

An estimated 40,000 Americans are newly infected with HIV each year, according to the CDC. But at least one-fourth of Americans who are positive don’t know it. However, getting tested is becoming a more routine part of medical care.
Wednesday is National HIV Testing Day. So for 12 hours, The Resource Center of Dallas will offer continuous free rapid HIV tests and syphilis screenings.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can get tested at the Nelson-Tebedo Health Resource Center, 4012 Cedar Springs Road. And from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., you can get tested at JR’s Bar and Grill, 3923 Cedar Springs Road.
If neither of these locations suits your schedule, you can go to HIVtest.org and enter your zip code. This site, which is run by the CDC, provides a list of nearby testing centers.
