Remember swine flue and the uproar it caused earlier this year? SFist.com is reporting that Doug Murphy, co-owner of two Castro-area bars, has died from the H1N1 (swine) flu virus.
And I was listening to NPR yesterday, and apparently health officials are saying that swine flu could be back with a real vengeance.
Scientists advising President Obama have reportedly said it is plausible that swine flu could affect up to half the U.S. population this fall and winter. The are also saying that up to 90,000 people could die from the virus. That’s more than double the normal flu season toll.
Researchers also say deaths would be concentrated among children and young adults.
