What a difference a year makes! In 2017, Usloy Reyna was living in Houston where he was affected by Hurricane Harvey. He decided to move to Dallas, and for a few months was living out of his car and occasionally couch-surfing, and often dining on the free popcorn at JR.’s. Well, hanging around there led eventually to a job as a bartender there, and he quickly became a customer favorite. In just over a year, the handsome, upbeat man has gone from homeless to honoree. Congrats, Usloy.

TMC: The Mining Company
TMC proved popular this year with Dallas Voice readers in a number of categories, and that says a lot about the storied bar, which has survived moves and changes in style to remain a draw with Dallasites. Surely one reason is how friendly the staff is (even as the club is undergoing renovations). Add to that Club DJ winner Mateo, and you have a successful combination for a popular hang.
