Liz Mikel and Leann Berry will emcee as men and women walk down the pink runway modeling bras designed to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Dallas actor Cedric Neal will be among the bra models.

The Design a Bra contest takes places at the Round-Up Saloon 6–9 p.m. on Sept. 4. The money raised will help Angels for the Cure meet their $75,000 goal to enter the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk in November.

Angels for the cure team member Danielle Sensabaugh is one of the event’s organizers. She said that for those who have never designed a bra before, they will hold a bra-building workshop at 6 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., contestants will walk hold a bra fashion show. Prizes will be awarded for best male and best female bra as well as a best overall bra. The event will include a silent auction for merchandise as well as for the decorated, donated bras. Registration begins at 6 p.m. Each entry costs $20. Ballots are available for $5 each and Sensabaugh encourages people to vote often.

The three-day breast cancer walk takes place Nov. 6–8.  Sensabaugh said the purpose of the event was to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention, treatment and research that the Susan G. Komen Foundation funds. The Dallas-based organization is the largest private fund raiser devoted to breast cancer and has often partnered with the LGBT community.

To reach their goal, Angels for the Cure is holding a number of fund raising events, but Sensabaugh believes the Design A Bra contest at the Round-Up will be its most successful.

Costume designer Brian Smith has created and donated three bras and a bustier for the fundraiser. Other items donated for the silent auction are dinner at Masaryk, a Mexican restaurant in Addison and brunch at The Bronx in Oak Lawn. A wellness center has contributed two packages — one includes a European facial and another a massage and refresher facial.

As of this week, the 30-member Angels for the Cure team had already raised over $47,700. That ranks them fifth in the Dallas area. Each team member is committed to raising $2,300 and the money collected at the Round-Up will be split among those who have not reached their goal yet.
