If you feel your artistic urges bubbling but don’t have a way to express it, there are two opportunities presenting themselves right now.
The Cedar Springs Merchant Association is seeking artists to contribute to a first-ever art fest, to take place on Saturday, April 25. Artists will be asked to donate a small percentage of their sales and to provide an auction item to help raise money for beautification efforts on the neighborhood. In lieu of an entry fee, applicants can buy a loyalty card offering discounts for local merchants. You can download the application at ShopCedarSprings.com. You don’t need to be gay… but as the saying goes, it couldn’t hurt.
If words are more your milieu, Queer Voltage — the theater company that produced the play “Queer Anarchy” in 2007 — has announced the first Queer Poets Competition… and for this one, you DO have to be gay just to enter. Finalists (10 to 15) will be selected to read their works at a special even on May 16 at Teatro de la Muse in Plano. First place wins $150; second gets $75 and third $50, and all finalists will be listed in a memorial chapbook. Final judging will be by queer poet Cyrus Cassells.
The entry fee is $5 per poem and are limited to three type-written pages. Entries must be post-marked by March 31. Proceeds benefit Queer Voltage. For more details, contact Christopher Soden at 7706 Meadow Road, #121, Dallas 75230 or e-mail JLGDRD@gmail.com.сайткак зарегистрировать сайт на гугле
