Disco Dude: Dannee Phann

Party promoter Dannee Phann is helping the Turtle Creek Chorale raise some money. Saturday night, he transforms The Brick into a Thai-flavored hoopla with the third annual "One Night in Bangkok."

Last year’s event raised $15,648 for the Chorale.

After he moved to the U.S. from Cambodia about 30 years ago, Phann became a nightclubs celebutante.  He’s been bartending for 13 years. And when he first crossed to the other side of the velvet ropes it was to work as a go-go dancer at Damewoods, a now-defunct tavern. About 10 years ago, he started hitting the circuit scene. He became such a circuit queen that organizers began asking him to plan parties.

So when Howard Okon, owner of The Brick, needed both planning help and someone who could bring in the crowds, he turned to Phann.

While the Saturday night shindig is the biggest event of the weekend, there are three other affiliated events as well: a Friday host party at Mickey’s, and two Sunday after parties — one at The Club and one at Joe’s Place.
