A group of 11 protesters showed up at Cathedral of Hope to protest the Teen Pride event taking place this afternoon from 2-7 p.m. More than 50 counter-protesters drowned out their noise and blocked the view from the teen event.
Real Live Connection is sponsoring the event taking place at Cathedral of Hope behind the Interfaith Peace Chapel.
About a dozen police were at the church to make sure the protesters stayed on the side of Nash Street away from the church. Counter-protesters, led by the Rev. Neil Cazares-Thomas, stood with their backs to the 11.
While the protesters pretended to quote from the Bible over a megaphone, the counter-protesters blared music, played trumpets and prevented their hate message from getting to the teens. A group hung tie-dyed sheets for more than a block to separate the street scene from the event. Inside the Pride event, more music blared and attendees were unaware of what was going on outside.
Police said they’d remain at the church property through the event to make sure the teens are safe.
