PostOfficeAs we’ve noted here repeatedly, the Office Depot and U.S. Post Office parking lots on Oak Lawn Avenue aren’t safe places to park when you’re going to the Cedar Springs strip at night.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday — as Dallas Pride weekend began — police shot a robbery suspect after they interrupted a robbery in progress in the Post Office parking lot. The Dallas Morning News reports that undercover officers were patrolling the area due to a large number of vehicle burglaries when they saw two men whom they thought were breaking into cars:

One of the coverts identified himself as a police officer. One of the suspects turned around. He had a gun in his hand, which he pointed at the officer. “Fearing for his life,” Mitchell says, “the officer fired his weapon striking the suspect in the abdomen.” The other suspect ran off, and remains at large Saturday morning.

The injured suspect was transported by ambulance to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Mitchell says there were no other injuries.

Be careful out there this weekend, folks. Let’s make it a happy — and safe — Dallas Pride.
