BARKSGIVING DAY

Dog owners can give thanks for the gifts they get from pet ownership by celebrating the first-ever “Barksgiving Festival” on Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Big Thicket in White Rock Lake Park.

The event is sponsored by Homestyle Select and will benefit the Operation Kindness Animal Shelter, North Texas’ oldest and largest no-kill animal shelter.

At the Barksgiving event, all the dogs will be served Homestyle Select meals while their people are served a catered meal of turkey with all the trimmings, vegetables and desert. The event will also include costume contests, Frisbee team performances, sack races, a photo station for free portraits of pets and their people, a pumpkin decorating contest and a best dog trick contest, as well as prizes and giveaways and the chance to buy fresh-baked pies from local bakers.

Admission to the festival is free. Meals for the dogs are free, and the cost for people is $10 per meal.
