Watch CBS Videos Online
Robert Jeffress, senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Dallas, appeared on CBS’ The Early Show this morning to talk about President-elect Barack Obama’s selection of Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at Obama’s inauguration. For those who don’t have time to watch the video, here’s part of what Jeffress said:
“To me, it’s just unbelievable to think that because Rick Warren believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman, somehow that characterizes him as a hate-monger and makes him unfit to pray at the inauguration. I mean, this sounds like Bizarro World to me.”
UPDATE:Â To balance Jeffress’ comments, here’s another local perspective from Mike McKay, executive director of the Resource Center of Dallas:
“As the executive director of one of the largest GLBT community centers in the U.S., it is surprising, outrageous and disrespectful that President-elect Obama’s selected Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the Presidential inauguration next month. Given Warren’s divisive and homophobic history and statements, it is like inviting and highlighting the grand wizard of the KKK at this historic event. On the heels of the Proposition 8 vote in California, it is insulting to the scores of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender voters who backed the President-elect’s candidacy and has the potential to hurt his support in this key constituency.”
Who cares if Rick Warren is a member of the NAZI party?
What’s it matter to you?
They are only Jews anyways…
Do you know what I mean?
We’re racially superior to them
and I doubt that all this “Adolf talk†will amount to anything anyways…
I see no reason why Barack Obama should worry about the Jews.
The Jews only make up a fraction of the population
and I think it’s about time to put them in their rightful place.
There’s only one solution to Rick Warren’s “Jewish Problemâ€
and that’s the final solution.
Everyone needs to listen to all that the Rev. Jeffress has to say on the subject of homosexuality, including his two archived sermons on the First Baptist Church of Dallas’ Web site where he explains why he believes “gay is not OK.” His rhetoric goes way beyond the issue of same-sex marriage in an apparent attempt to inflame prejudices with the use of stereotypes that brand gay and lesbian people as pedophiles and disease carriers. He uses the same type of rhetoric employed by White Supremacist leaders, who often also portray themselves as messengers of God. He’s just a little slicker in how he goes about his propagandizing.
Robert Jeffress, senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Dallas, he is at his same OLD message about gay equal rights and preaching hate from the pulpit. We wonder why Hate Crimes are on the rise. The number of reported attacks against LGBT people increased 24 percent in 2007 over 2006, and they were expected to jump in 2008, said Sharon Stapel, executive director of the New York City Anti-Violence.
I will keep them on the radar so we know what they are planning to do.
Jeffress is dishonest and guilty of sheltering a bigot. Jeffress knows Warren has equated loving, committed same-sex couples with pedophiles and incest. Now Jeffress is enabling evil, and that makes him a participant in evil.
All I have to say is Obama who? It is over before it started. Hillary 2012!!!
It seem like we are always the first to be thrown under the bus. Perhaps we should have thought twice before we threw Hillary Clinton under the bus. I heard Al Shaprton trying to rationalize this. Garnin, on this blog, has tried to rationalize it.
Steve Real makes a valid point. If this was about any other group, there would be major outrage.
I don’t buy this “reaching out” bullshit. The religious right has been in control for the last eight years. If anyone needs to reach out, it is them. Instead, Obama gives a major platform to a man who equates gays with men having sex with a baby, thinks we can pray away the gay, will not allow gays who don’t repent in his church, and is just a fat version of Pat Robertson.
Now tell me again why this should be okay?
Ugh! Just hearing Jeffries voice makes me ill.
Here’s some other places to check out. Rachel Maddow has dedicated 23 mins in 2 days to the subject of Obama’s selection of Warren – yet I haven’t seen these posted anywhere. Why aren’t we supporting OUR OWN when they step up and really go the extra mile to get details out there? (Ok, off that soap box).
19 Dec – https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#28320114 Titled “Pastor President” (s/b Pastor present)
*Warren refuses church membership in Saddleback Church to unrepented gays” on website… plus more. (Where the hell did she find that? lmao-I can’t find it anywhere through the maze of the church’s website- was going to post the link).
****David Corn suggests that opposition to Warren’s presence should be louder in order for Obama to see a reason to rescind his invitation… HMMMMmmmm… my brain is turning here.
18 Dec – https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#28304233 “Change we can believe in?”
Maddow interviews Gavin Newsom (and she slips a little known fact of Warren’s beliefs..interesting).

And..psst, don’t forget the Candlelight Vigil tonight at Galleria tonight at 500pm! (on Alpha Road)
Thanks to Jeff in Dallas I now know that an entire presidential legacy boils down to a 3 minute inaugral invocation. Who knew? I innocently thought Obama’s response to an economic melt-down, worldwide financial crisis, warfare in the middle east and global climatic change might have had something to do with it. Silly me.
Betty
It is a bit more than the three minutes. This catapults Warren intol Billy Graham status.
In other words, it is okay to be a christian and think gays molest babies, or is equal to incest, or deny them the right to worship unless they repent, and that teens can pray the gay away.
Warren is a fat fuck and everyday he wakes up, he is sinning by maintaining himself as a fat fuck. So in addition to being a bigot, homophobe, he is also a hypocrite.
Is that the stort of change we should count on?
Everyone is so focused on who should or shouldn’t do a prayer. Does anyone have a problem with the fact that they’re doing a prayer? This is a government event and they’re doing something that public schools can’t do. Not to mention that 25 percent of this country is not even Christian.
A good question to ask him is to define man and woman. Those of us in the trans community don’t have rights to marry anyone period. No matter what sex our partner is, a marriage to them is on shaky ground. In Kansas for example, it is illegal for trans people to marry men or women, we are less than human there.
If I recall correctly, there are 13 different sexes of humans, 11 that are not xx and xy. What are they then? men or women? 1.7 % of the population is intersexed. Shall we start testing everyone for chromosones before they marry?
I hardly think this places Rick Warren in Billy Graham status. Billy Graham did not establish a super church, he was an evangelist who worked throughout the world.
What I think the LGBT community needs to remember is that the benediction is being led by The Rev. Joseph Lowery, a co-worker with Martin Luther King and an advocate for gay rights.
Furthermore, 170 members of LGBA (Lesbian Gay Band Association) will be marching in the inaugural parade representing our community a most positive manner. Two members of the Oak Lawn Band will be part of that group.
Thanks George – now that the irrational fringe have had their say, the voices of reason in our community are finally getting heard.
When Jesus Christ came to earth he did certain special things. The main thing was the Atonement as he died so we might be resurrected. He worked to help those suffering and it is said that charity is the pure love of Christ. He taught us how to pray to Heavenly Father. He set an example that we should use in our live that we could follow. I am a Mormon and we believe that the Jews are the chosen race. If someone states that that all Catholics are going to hell they remeber Mother Teresa whose life’s work was with the poorest and sickest and she didn’t get paid a lot of money to do it, Jesus also said we must forgive everyone as he is the only one that see our hearts and also understand our body chemistry. To preach inferiorority of one person or a group of people reflects a puffed up pride.
