Olympia Dukakis hosts a fundraiser benefiting the film "Yankee Restraint" at Bright Group.

Bright Group was the site for a fundraiser hosted by LGBT icon and Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis on Monday night. The charity event benefited Yankee Restraint, a documentary about a Dallas gay couple and how they dealt with the fallout from the financial crisis. The catered event included a screening of a hilarious 15-minute excerpt from the film.

Dukakis, whose screen works include Moonstruck, Tales of the City, Jeffrey and Steel Magnolias, spoke about her feelings on the film and past experiences supporting the LGBT community. One of the event’s organizers, Jim Rosenau of San Francisco, said the documentary needed roughly $68,000 to be completed. Auction items included prints from such reputable artists such as 1930s photographer Fred Stein, contemporary photographer Jason Arsenault, and paintings from noted artist and documentary subject Craig. Also in attendance was filmmaker Harry Marvomichalis.
