Oak Lawn United Methodist Church, 3014 Oak Lawn Ave., is hosting composer/worship leader/justice advocate Mark Miller for WE RESIST! A Community Sing-in on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to all, with accessibility accommodations provided, including ASL interpretation, Spanish translation and access-need seating. Reserve your spot at OLUMC.org/MarkMiller.

The sing-in will bring in people from across Dallas “to raise their voices, learn practices of nonviolent resistance and strengthen compassionate care for vulnerable neighbors,” according to a press release from the church.

The press release explains that “The vision for this gathering was inspired by the way churches in Minneapolis are cultivating ‘sacred resistance’ — communities coming together around song, prayer and public witness in response to fear and injustice. Local leaders began to wonder what it might look like for Dallas to practice that same kind of collaboration.

“This sing-in is intended as a starting point: a place where music shapes courage and where neighbors meet one another as partners in hope.”

The Rev. Rachel Griffin-Allison, Oak Lawn UMC’s senior pastor, said, “Dallas is being called to courageous compassion. Music has always carried movements forward. When we sing together, we remember who we are and who we belong to — and we find the strength to show up for one another in love.”
