Lloyd Wright passed away in Dallas on Nov. 1, 2017, due to congestive heart failure. He was 72 years old.
His family roots are in Wylie, Texas, but it was in Oak Lawn where countless friends got to know him. Lloyd, or “Loretta” as he sometimes called himself, was basically the King of Pool in Oak Lawn since the 1970s. He was the best, the very best. He was a regular at the beer busts at the old TMC location in Dallas and more recently at the Hidden Door. Where there was a pool table, often Lloyd would be seen making his seemingly effortless pool shots and making friends. Most of the time his pool shots just went in.
While he loved pool, often he spent too much time doing what he loved. Lloyd, like all of us had his faults, but those who knew him knew he was a kind man that loved his friends. Lloyd cared about many and was happy to greet people he had not seen for a while.
Back in the early 1980s, Lloyd was the victim of a prank when someone had his obituary prematurely published in the Dallas Voice as a joke. It was funny then when people walked up to him in shock seeing he was alive.
Sadly, this obit is real.
Lloyd leaves behind a dog named Rita and so many memories. We will see him again.
