At last night’s meeting of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas, former city council member and openly gay man Ed Oakley talked to the group about his annual birthday fund raising party on June 19. He said, “I’m not announcing anything, but I’m running for something soon.”
This confirms Dallas Voice Reporter John Wright’s story from two weeks ago that Oakley may be seeking office again. Oakley made the runoffs last year for Dallas mayor. If he had won, Oakley would have been the first openly gay mayor in one of the nation’s ten largest cities.
By the way, the room erupted into applause after Oakley’s statement. Then he quickly darted out the door before I was able to question him about the announcement.
