Dallas attorney Chad West advises Hurricane Harvey victims to file claims with their insurance companies today. Among the damage the Texas Legislature accomplished during the regular session was passing a law that makes filing a claim as of Sept. 1 more difficult.
According to TexasWatch.org, here’s some of the things the new insurance law does:
Slashes penalties on property insurers that drag out payment on claims
Forces many insurance cases into backlogged and understaffed federal courts where it could take twice as long to receive justice
Imposes additional costs on property owners
May make it more difficult to find a lawyer willing to tackle a case against an insurer that wrongfully draws out a valid property damage claim
