“Slumdog Millionaire,” with seven wins, dominated the Oscar ceremony… predictably.Â
But “Milk,” the bio of slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk, walked away with two biggies tonight: best actor for Sean Penn (besting Mickey Rourke … I told you so) and best original screenplay (ditto). Penelope Cruz also won for supporting actress as a bisexual woman in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Kate Winslet, in bisexual director Stephen Daldry’s “The Reader,” beat Meryl Streep in “Doubt” for best actress. And the late Heath Ledger got a standing ovation when he won for “The Dark Knight.”Â
Both Penn and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black gave impassioned, lump-in-the-throat-inducing speeches that included pleas for gay marriage equality.
arnold
great to have you on the show…thanks for bringing the i.q. level up a point or two.
the best is that sean penn gave that awesome chat about all the hate…… he was throwing him some mormoms to the curb.
i never new that lance black was so cute
I was totally blown away by Dustin Lance Black’s speech. I found myself hysterically clapping and crying alone in my living room, glad that he kept it within the theme of Milk, and spoke from his heart. Ending it with telling all of kids they have value, no matter what they’ve been told, was so uplifting.
Jack E. — only a point? Thanks though… so… did I win the charcoal drawing?
