2011 Lone Star Ride in Fort Worth
Microsoft, which became a sponsor of Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS this year, challenged riders to each raise $1,000. The first 100 riders to reach that goal will receive a copy of Office Professional 2010.
On Saturday, Aug. 25, the team Hope Riders is sponsoring a evening of comedy and music at the Interfaith Peace Chapel. Dinner and drinks are included. The first riders to raise their $1,000 will be recognized.
Among the entertainers is Jerry Calumn, who has worked as a professional comedian and is director of the Lone Star Ride.
This year’s Sept. 29-30 ride opens and closes at Microsoft’s Las Colinas campus.
The company’s Diversity Leadership Team hopes this challenge will spur fundraising and double the number of LSRFA riders or crew who raise $1,000 or more. The minimum fundraising goal for riders is $500.
At least 400 bicyclists and supporting crew are expected to participate this year including a team fielded by Microsoft.
The 150-mile cycling event raises funds for three North Texas HIV/AIDS service organizations — AIDS Services of Dallas, AIDS Outreach Center of Tarrant County and Resource Center Dallas.
“The Diversity Leadership Team is committed to expanding inclusion, awareness and our diversity footprint through community events such as LSRFA,” said Diversity Leadership Team member Daniel G. Babb, who is spearheading the promotion. “Because AIDS is everyone’s problem, we hope this challenge has a positive impact on LSRFA and helps boost fundraising past $100,000.”

Copies of the Office Professional 2010 suite will be presented to winners at LSRFA rider social events each month and at the LSRFA closing ceremonies on Sept. 30.
