Nancy Weinberger, leader of the Oak Lawn Stakeholders crime watch group, sent out these handy-dandy maps today (click to enlarge) showing where offenses took place in January 2012. Weinberger said Chief Malik Aziz, who’s over DPD’s Northwest Division, will be the crime watch group’s featured speaker during its regular meeting next week, at noon Wednesday at the Oak Lawn Library Branch.
Perhaps someone in law enforcement can explain a couple of things for me. “BMV” appears to be an abbreviation for “Burglary Motor Vehicle”. Does this mean a motor vehicle was stolen, or that the vehicle was burglarized (as in someone broke into the car and stole the contents)? Also, what does UUMV abbreviation stand for? The “MV” is obvious. What does “UU” mean?
@James: BMV stands for burglary of a motor vehicle, which means someone broke in and/or stole some of the contents. UUMV stands of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, which means grand theft auto.
