Massage therapist injured jumping through window

Sam Daniels

A gay Dallas massage therapist died Wednesday night after fleeing two gunmen who burst into his apartment at the Tecali Apartments in the 4500 block of Cedar Springs Road.

Sansiski “Sam” Daniels, 43, died about 11 p.m. at Parkland Memorial Hospital from lacerations he apparently received trying to flee the gunmen during the home invasion. He received the wounds jumping through a bedroom window in the apartment.

Sr. Cpl. Janice Crowther, a spokeswoman for the Dallas Police Department, said a suspect was arrested in connection with the home invasion. Another suspect is being sought, she said.

Although Crowther said only two suspects were involved in the attack, earlier reports had said there were three assailants.

Crowther said witnesses told police that drugs appeared to be involved in the crime, and the gunmen were demanding money.

Daniels lived long enough to tell police the identity of the gunmen and where one of them lived, Crowther said.

The name of the suspect, and the charge for which he was being held was not available for release yet, she said.

The Dallas County medical examiner has not yet ruled on the cause of death. Police said he was bleeding profusely from numerous cuts when he was taken to the hospital.

Daniels had worked has a massage therapist in Dallas for more than a decade, and he occasionally promoted African-American nights at a local gay bar.

He was also active in Dallas’ gay softball leagues.
