Annual event raises much needed funds for AIDS Services of Dallas, AIDS Outreach Center of Tarrant County and Resource Center of Dallas

On hand to present and receive the checks at the wrap party were, from left, Resource Center of Dallas Board Chair Linda Moore; 2008 Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS Co-Chair Arlen Miller, AIDS Services of Dallas Executive Director Don Maison; 2007-2008 Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS Co-Chair Tessa Golden; AIDS Outreach of Tarrant County Executive Director Gary Isaacs; and Resource Center of Dallas Executive Director Mike McKay.

The Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS distributed $180,393 to its 2007 beneficiaries at its Holiday Wrap Party on Dec. 6.

A total of 108 bicyclists participated in the 2007 Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS, held Sept. 29-30. Participants rode more than 13,500 miles, combined, on the two-day tour through North Texas. They left the beginning point near downtown Dallas at sunrise on Sept. 29 and camped overnight in Glen Rose, before making the journey to the ride’s end point in the Fort Worth arts district.

A crew of 159 volunteers supported the riders, providing everything from food and water to bike repairs, massages and encouragement.

Each cyclist was required to raise money to ride, and proceeds were divided between AIDS Outreach Center of Tarrant County, AIDS Services of Dallas and the Resource Center of Dallas.

The 2008 Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS is scheduled for Sept. 27-28, and participants can save $25 by registering before Dec. 31. Register by e-mail at DMinehart@rcdallas.org.
