CSMA, Round-Up co-hosting benefit for Beautification Project
The Cedar Springs Merchants Association and The Round-Up Saloon are cohosts for a Friday, Sept. 11 fundraiser benefiting the Cedar Springs Beautification Project.

The fundraiser will include a live underwear auction with male models, a silent auction featuring a variety of items and services, and food, beverages and entertainment.

A total of 15 VIP tables, each seating a minimum of four, are available for $100 each. The VIP tables include complimentary champagne, VIP table service and tickets to the VIP Reception and Preview.

General admission is free. The VIP reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the auction starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Cedar Springs Beautification Project plans include new street lighting that is equipped to hold signage for special events, cobblestone sidewalks and crosswalks, uniform landscaping and trees along the block, new benches and trash receptacles, possible gateway arches leading into the Cedar Springs shopping and entertainment district and more.

Cindi Love to speak at Promise MCC; Wednesday series continues
The Rev. Cindi Love will be guest speaker at Promise MCC during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Sept. 13. A reception will follow the service.

Love is the former executive director of the Metropolitan Community Churches, the international denomination of churches with a primary outreach to the LGBT community.

Also at Promise MCC, the six-week series "Sex Talk" continues each Wednesday night through Oct. 7 in the Promise Worship and Community Center. The series is an open and frank discussion of sexual issues and questions within the LGBTQ community.

The Rev. Jon Haack, senior pastor of Promise MCC, said the series offers "a proactive approach to building healthier lives and healthier relationships."

This series is jointly sponsored by Living Faith Covenant Church, where Apostle Alex D. Byrd is senior pastor.

The Wednesday night discussions start with a brief service of praise and worship at 7 p.m., followed at 7:30 p.m. by the series discussion. The public is welcome to attend.

Contest offers chance to be photographed for NOH8 exhibit
Dallas Tavern Guild, ilume and the North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce are cosponsoring a contest that allows one winner to have his or her photo taken on Friday, Sept. 18, by Adam Bouska for inclusion in the NOH8 photo exhibit.

To participate, individuals must correctly name the celebrities featured on the 10 NOH8 banners hanging outside the ilume building on Cedar Springs Road. If more than one entry correctly names the same number of celebrities, the winner will be chosen in a random drawing of all tied entries.

Stonewall Young Democrats, Legacy co-hosting LifeWalk benefit
The Dallas Stonewall Young Democrats and Legacy Founders Cottage will hold a joint fundraiser, The Red Party, on Thursday, Sept. 24 to benefit AIDS Arms’ LifeWalk.

The party will be held in the Great Room and Champagne Lounge at ilume on Cedar Springs Road. Valet parking is free.

The Red Party will be a red-carpet-style event complete with performers, music and servers providing heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks. The event will be hosted by Jessica Jade and will include performances by the current reigning Miss LifeWalk 2009 Skyla Miles along with Jenna Skyy and Aspen Tyler.
