Library offering ‘amnesty’ through Nov. 15 on overdue books, media
In an effort to recover overdue books and media, Resource Center Dallas’ Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library is holding a first-ever "amnesty program," and through Nov. 15, anybody with an overdue book or media item belonging to the library can return the item without a fine, no questions asked.
According to library records, there are 186 items on file overdue by a month or more. This number includes books, videos, CDs and DVDs.
As of Monday, Oct. 12, the library has instituted a $5 annual fee for library and Cyber Center cards. Money from the card fee will be used to replace missing and overdue library books.
GEAR, RCD team up for town hall on transgender issues
GEAR (Gender Education Advocacy and Resources) and Resource Center Dallas are joining forces to hold a town hall meeting on transgender issues on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 7 p.m. to 9 pm. in the Rainbow room at the Resource Center, 2701 Reagan St.
The meeting is intended to give transgender people and their friends, family and allies a chance to discuss a variety of issues.

2 weekends of Halloween parties planned on Cedar Springs
The Halloween street celebration on Cedar Springs Road takes place annually on the Saturday before Oct. 31. Although the holiday falls on a Saturday this year, the outdoor party is still scheduled for the prior weekend.
Because of leap years, the last time Halloween fell on a Saturday was in 1998.
While the outdoor street party takes place on Oct. 24 this year, the indoor costume contests take place on Oct. 31.
Rick Espaillat of Caven Enterprises, sponsor of the outdoor Halloween event, said that the costume parade down the center of Cedar Springs begins at 10 p.m. with commentary by Edna Jean Robinson. A stage in the back parking lot will be new this year with performances by a number of Rose Room entertainers. Guest DJ Maurice Tamraz from Los Angeles will also perform.
The street party begins at 8 p.m. All ages are welcome but beer sales are limited to those ages 21 or older. Special permits issued by Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for the event allow the outdoor sale of beer within the permitted area. That area runs from Oak Lawn Avenue to Knight Street and one block on either side of Cedar Springs Road on Reagan and Throckmorton Streets.
Soda, water, Red Bull and hot dogs will be sold on the street along with beer. •

Wasn’t GEAR supposed to have been already partnered with the Resource Center ?? After all, wasn’t that the whole idea so that GEAR could become this nation leading “non-profit” group ??
So its pretty redundant to say that the Resource Center is joining forces with the group when it already is partners with it.
Concerning this “Town Hall Meeting” they are holding on Thursday, is this going to be a meeting where REAL trans issues are discussed or is this going to be another HRC recruitment/lobby venue chock full of political activism like it was last time ???
Gee, perhaps that Dallas based potato chip company will supply the refreshments for the meeting……. After all, some of the trans “consultants” involved with GEAR appear to already be world renown over at that company……
